Leon Murray MBE., JP
We were delighted to hear on the radio, and to read in Saturday morning’s paper, of the award of the MBE to Leon Murray, a well-known and poplar member of New Street Methodist Church. The award, in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List, was made in recognition of Leon’s services – and I quote from the official citation – to ‘Community Relations in Telford and in the West Midlands’. In celebration of the event an Invitation Lunch, hosted by Leon’s wife Barbara, was held after the service on Sunday morning 17th June. About 50 people sat down to a magnificent buffet lunch prepared by Barbara and her band of helpers. In his remarks, Leon briefly reviewed his background up to his arrival in Wellington 46 years ago. Since then he has travelled many hundreds of miles in the course of his duties as a magistrate, in his connection with the Methodist Church- including a 12 month tour as Vice President of the Methodist Conference – and in his Community Relations work. An indefatigable worker, Leon is also well known as a Local Preacher.
In conclusion we offer our sincere congratulations to Leon, and wish him well in his future activities. To Barbara we say and equally sincere ‘Thank You’ for such a splendid celebration.
