Newsletter Issue no. 3

August 2007

This month we have lots of dates for your diaries so get your pens out ready to make notes!

Sunday 30th September

After service which will have an environmental theme there is a coach trip to Bull Farm in Kenley.  This working farm has dedicated areas set aside for wildlife so that we can see for ourselves how to work together with nature.

The coach leaves at 11.45am so bring your sandwiches and we’ll have a picnic before the farmer takes us on our nature walk.  Returning back to church around 3.30pm.  Please remember to put on appropriate footwear.

It’s free but we’re asking for £ 3.00 to help cover the cost of the coach.  Book your seat now as places are limited.

Saturday 3rd November

We have booked a fashion show with Ethical Catwalk to be staged here selling clothes for women, men and children as well as accessories and gifts.  They describe themselves as “decent human beings joining in the resistance against the dark side of the fashion and cosmetics industries by encouraging customers to adopt a lifestyle which doesn’t rely on exploitation of people and the planet.”  Feel free to check them out: www.ethicalcatwalk.co.uk

Now for the best bit – models required!

If you are female of any age (including kids) and would like to model for the evening, let me have your name (and age).  If you are not that brave we could do with some volunteers to help the models get ready.

Thursday 15 November

The speaker at Food For Thought will be Michelle Thurgood from Telford & Wrekin’s travel-to-work.  She will be able to tell you all about car sharing, obtaining a bike shelter and so on.  She will then liaise with David Corbett who has volunteered to be our travel officer.

CAR BOOT SALE

Our recent car boot sale and coffee morning on 7th July raised over £150.  The car boot sale gave us the opportunity to recycle and reuse and offered goods at affordable prices.   The coffee morning served only Fair Trade tea and coffee.

Thankyou to all who supported this.

Date of next meeting:

Thu 13th Sept at 1.00pm.

Monday 27th August

Cut the Carbon March – anyone wishing to join this 1,000 mile march as it passes through the Midlands please see the poster on the notice board.

Wednesday 5 September

An evening meeting will be held here by Local Agenda 21.  It may be of interest to Green Team members but everyone is invited.  Further information from Mary Lewis.

 HESSIAN BAGS

In response to a ‘green tip’ in the church weekly notices requesting that we try not to use plastic carrier bags – we have agreed to look into purchasing Hessian or canvas bags with the church logo on them.  Hopefully they will be ready in time for Christmas.

FEEDBACK

Please let us know if you enjoy this newsletter or if you have anything to say.

ECO-CONGREGATION AWARD

When we are ready to apply for our award we are required to provide evidence of our projects and improvements that we are working on so please be aware that someone will be taking photographs!

RECYCLING

Some extra bins have been put in the kitchen so please make sure that you sort out your tins, bottles, plastic and paper.

Thankyou to Ben James who then takes this to the recycling skips.  Some extra help is needed on occasion when he is on holiday.

MOBILE PHONES & INK CARTRIDGES

Peter Clarke has forwarded an address to us if you wish to recycle your old phone or ink cartridge.  It is:

Thursday 13 September

This Thursday’s weekly coffee morning will be run on behalf of the Green Team so that we can raise some funds towards the cost of the coach for the farm trip plus hopefully to kickstart some other projects that we want to get off the ground.  Help will be needed to serve teas, coffees and tidy up so please come forward.

Afterwards we will be holding a Green Team meeting at 1pm.  See you then.
